The Smooth CE 3.6 elliptical trainer is an excellent value in the $1,500 price range. It is built like a rock and has an impressive service record.

When I was recently at the Smooth Fitness corporate headquarters, I put the CE 3.6 through the motions. I immediately noticed how it was very solid, stable and quiet. It also had a very smooth (no pun intended) motion.

Most elliptical manufacturers who market on price or features. Smooth focuses on building quality machines at a value price. They also back-up their equipment with excellent customer service and extended warranties.

NOTE: As of 5/15/10 the Smooth CE 3.6 was selling for $1,199 with free shipping. They dropped the price $100. Go to SmoothFitness.com for the latest deal.*

New: Check out my Smooth CE 3.6 Video demo. Taken when I was at the corporate headquarters.

Smooth CE 3.6 Elliptical Trainer Features

Stability — The Smooth CE 3.6 weighs in at a hefty 175 lbs. The weight combined with a long and wide footprint, make this a solid machine. For people who are over 200 lbs, this elliptical should be appealing. You don’t want one of those compact crosstrainers that are around 100 lbs.

In addition, the CE 3.6 is constructed with heavy gauge steel, which further adds to the stability. I’m not sure there is another elliptical at this price, which is as solid and stable.

Electro-Magnetic Drive and Braking System — The advantage of an electro-magnetic drive is there are less parts in the braking system. Resistance is created by electrical currents and not moving magnets. You’ll find most high-end ellipticals utilize this technology.

Rear Drive - There is some controversy over which is better, rear or front drive. It really is a matter of preference. However, there are three advantages to the rear drive.

First, there are fewer moving parts, and fewer parts means less service issues. With a front drive you have pedals that run along rails with wheels. These wheels often wear out. In contrast, the Smooth CE 3.6 uses sealed bearing instead of the wheels and rollers found in front drive machines. The overall design of the Smooth CE 3.6 is simplistic, and that simplicity results in less service.

In addition, the rear design with the sealed bearings makes for a very quiet mechanical operation. When you have less moving parts you have less wear and resulting noise.

Finally, the rear drive tends to center your body, while many front drive ellipticals can have you leaning forward.

Once again, it really is preference on which is best, rear or front drive. However, Precor, which invented elliptical trainers and is considered one of the best machines out, have rear drive.

Backlit LCD Display – Smooth has some of the better consoles and displays on the market. You can get feedback on speed, time, distance, heart rate, calories and resistance level.

Speakers, MP3 Input & Fan — Although built-in speakers is getting to be a standard feature, what I like about the CE 3.6 design is the fact the speakers are raised to be closer to your head. There is also a 3-speed fan.

Heart Rate Sensors on Moveable Handlebars — The majority of ellipticals have the heart rate sensors in stationary grips. You have to take your hands off the handlebars to get a reading. Which makes no sense since you want a reading when you are working both your lower and upper body.

Heart Rate Control — The Smooth CE 3.6 elliptical trainer is equipped with both wireless heart rate control, and handgrip HRC. Many people, including myself, prefer not having an uncomfortable strap around our chest. The heart rate control handgrips on the moving handles is a nice alternative. Smooth is one of the few companies to offer this innovative feature.

Pivotal Foot Pedals — The ergonomic, pivotal foot pedals reduce the strain on your joints. When you workout on an elliptical trainer your feet and ankles naturally want to pivot with the elliptical motion. The CE 3.6 foot pedals mimic the pivotal movement, thereby reducing harsh impact or possible injury. The design allows your ankles, as well as your knees and hips, to remain in alignment. The design reduces discomfort and numbness to your feet, which is a common complaint with ellipticals. It further prevents injuries from excessive straining.

Good Customer Service Record — In talking with the head of customer service, and was told me the service record for the CE 3.6 is excellent. The basic configuration of this machine has been out for several years and has proven to be very durable. If you have a winner, stay with it.

Warranty — An indication of the service record is the warranty. You get a 3-years parts, and a 2-year labor warranty. Above average coverage for the price.

Our Review — Smooth CE 3.6 Elliptical Trainer

The Smooth CE 3.6 is one of the best values when selling at $1,399 with shipping. I say that because of the overall design, durability, service record, features and the 2-year labor warranty. This is one elliptical I am quit comfortable recommending.

Customer Review

My elliptical machine arrived within a week of ordering it. It was very easy to assemble and I am very pleased with the overall construction and stability of this machine. I have searched for three years in various sporting goods stores for an elliptical of health club quality and found exactly what I wanted at a great price. I have had it over a week and I am still amazed with all of the features. – Teresa

1. It’s great if you travel. If you travel, the Kindle is a godsend. I’m the kind of guy who stocks up books for even short trips, fully expecting to finish War and Peace, Notes from Underground, and four Clive Cussler novels on a plane trip from Pittsburgh to Columbus. With the Kindle you have a full complement of books available at any time.

2. You can put anything you want on it. You can easily email DOC, TXT, and PDF files to your own Kindle email address for conversion to the Kindle – but that costs 10 cents.

3. It looks great. The Kindle 2 is an amazing improvement over the Kindle 1. If every manufacturer took cues on build quality and product life cycles from Amazon, we’d all be better off.

4. It feels great. This new version has excellent button placement and is thin enough to cut cheese. It’s eminently portable.

5. Almost any book at any time. Except for a few esoteric reference books I’ve found just about everything I need on the Kindle store. As more and more publishers go ebook – and I think an iPhone Kindle reader will truly blow the last bottlenecks out – this excuse will become ineffective.

6. It works in inclement conditions. I was in Mexico with the wife and kids and I wanted to test the Kindle out near the pool. Three books later and I felt like the laziest high-tech maven in the world. The ladies next to me brought twenty softcover novels with them and all of them got wet and messy. The Kindle worked like a dream.

7. The bookmarking and highlighting systems are vastly improved. The original Kindle had two methods for note-taking: you could select text and add a note or you could add a book mark. The new system refines those considerably and adds visual feedback whenever you take a note.

8. The dictionary is now in-line. When you move to a word, its definition appears at the bottom of the page. If you wanted a definition before, you had to pop out to a separate page.

9. You can almost see and understand the illustrations in 16 greyscale shades. Note the “almost.” However, it’s better than 4 shades, which was abysmal.

10. It is the future. Sorry, it is. Amazon nailed the ebook and they’re going to own the space for the next few years. Maybe they’ll pull a Netflix and sell the software to OEMs, which is fine by me. But ebooks are what we’ll be reading while we rocket to Mars in 2050. Or we’ll have our robotic concubines read them to us.

The HostMonster brand is later launched in mid 2006 and has also outpaced LunarPages in a year time. Although the branding of HostMonster might not be as good as BlueHost, but I believe it will slowly catch up.

Free Domain Name & Free Private Whois

HostMonster offer free domain name for life as long as you renew with them. Currently, they are also giving free private whois protection to your domain name to protect you from spams. Normally it is priced at $8.99.

As a comparison, LunarPages is only offering free domain name for your first term of payment. You will need to pay for the domain name when you renew your hosting. Also private whois is charged $7.95/year.

Not only HostGator is not providing you free whois service, they don’t even give you a free domain name.

They Will Give You Prorated Refund!

Because they are so confident with their business, they are the ONLY web host that will give you a prorated refund if you choose to stop anytime! If you choose to cancel within 30 days for any reason, they will give you a FULL refund, if you cancel after the 30 days, you will get prorated refund depending on how many months left in your contract.

For example if you sign up for 24 months to lock in the discount price of $3.95 per month. You pay a total of $94.80. And you choose to cancel after using it for 6 months, you will get back 18 month of hosting fee, that is $71.10!

Because of this, hosting with HostMonster (or BlueHost) is risk free! I fully respect their way of doing business and I believe this will win the hearts of many customers.

If you are lazy to read, here are the highlights summarized.

Free domain name for life + free private whois registration

Full money back for first 30 days and partial refund after that

CPanel control panel

Fantastico and SimpleScripts library (over 50 free scripts with few-clicks installation)

Instant account activation – start uploading your files immediately

Exceptional customer support – chat, phone, email all available

Owner owned and operated business. Managed by elite Matt Heaton will over 10 years in the hosting industry.

Special limited time discount price of $3.95!

HostMonster Offer

Pleas note that the current $5.95 offer by HostMonster is not the cheapest yet! The cheapest price is $3.95/month using the link below. This is a special link given to us for our visitors as a courtesy from HostMonster.

Amazon.com, Inc. (NASDAQ: AMZN) is an American-based multinational electronic commerce company. Headquartered in Seattle, Washington, it is America’s largest online retailer, with nearly three times the Internet sales revenue of the runner up, Staples, Inc., as of January 2010.

Jeff Bezos founded Amazon.com, Inc. in 1994 and launched it online in 1995. It started as an online bookstore, but soon diversified to product lines of VHS, DVD, music CDs and MP3s, computer software, video games, electronics, apparel, furniture, food, toys, and so on. Amazon has established separate websites in Canada, the United Kingdom, Germany, France, Japan, and China. It also provides international shipping to certain countries for some of its products.

On January 15, 2009, a survey published by Verdict Research found that Amazon was the UK’s favorite music and video retailer, and came third in overall retail rankings.

Amazon Product lines

Amazon has steadily branched into retail sales of music CDs, videotapes and DVDs, software, consumer electronics, kitchen items, tools, lawn and garden items, toys & games, baby products, apparel, sporting goods, gourmet food, jewelry, watches, health and personal-care items, beauty products, musical instruments, clothing, industrial & scientific supplies, groceries, and more.

The company launched Amazon.com Auctions, its own Web auctions service, in March 1999.

On May 16, 2007 Amazon announced its intention to launch Amazon MP3, its own online music store. The store launched in the US in public beta September 25, 2007, selling downloads exclusively in MP3 format without digital rights management. This is especially notable as it was the first online offering of DRM-free music from all four major record companies.

Website

The domain amazon.com attracted at least 615 million visitors annually by 2008 according to a Compete.com survey. This was twice the numbers of walmart.com.

According to the Internet audience measurement website Compete.com, Amazon attracts approximately 50 million U.S. consumers to its website on a monthly basis.
